From Sea to Land

From the Beginning

Carolina Sawyers, a log milling service, is the latest venture from founder Ted Bullock, sailing captain and boat builder, who was introduced to the art of milling with his work on Charleston’s Spirit of Charleston tall ship in 2006. With years of experience sailing and maintaining wooden boats, building wooden boats as Barrier Island Boat Builders, finding and selecting the right lumber for custom wooden structures, and milling logs for friends and family, Ted is now expanding his reach to offer high quality and custom milling services at affordable prices.

Knowledgeable about, and appreciative of, fine wood, Ted delivers high-quality lumber to woodworkers and manufacturers of wood products with an emphasis on milled lumber that meets the exacting needs of his customers.

Ted believes in the “handshake” method of doing business.  He offers reliable and available services, customized to his customers’ needs, for a fair price.

Low Country Lumber

Until recently, wood artifacts, some of which are furniture, planking, mantels, and doors, could not be identified as “made from locally sourced Low Country trees”. While the occasional log might be milled for its lumber, the vast majority of logs from Charleston’s Low Country is being made into firewood or garden mulch.

Now there is a network of professionals, working together and relying on each other, that follow the tree from its Low Country beginnings, to the felled logs that are milled in this locale, and made available to wood workers and artisans who value the tree as the bounty from the Charleston Low Country. Items made from locally sourced logs can offer a sense of the culture and history of our Charleston heritage.

When the owner of the tree remembers it as once gracing the outdoors that owner can now continue to appreciate it in the many forms into which it can be milled and shaped.

Carolina Sawyers is the provider for locally-sourced Charleston Low Country lumber. Carolina Sawyers is at the core of a network of Arborists and Artisans that work together to find, create and deliver wood products made from low county lumber and reminiscent of the essence and history of the Charleston Low Country.

Ted Bullock, Founder

“Trees are amazing creatures. I have long worked with their bounty. At this point in my journey I am motivated to return to the source of much of my inspiration: to where the wood crafting story begins, the tree itself. With care, consideration and decades of knowledge, I can custom mill your lumber, creating pieces that are ideally suited for whatever project you have in mind, be it for live-edge projects or wood for fencing, sheds, decks, and more. I guarantee you that I will honor the legacy of your tree. After all, the most favorite woodworking project I have ever done is plant an acorn.”
