From the Low Country
Until recently, wood artifacts, some of which are furniture, planking, mantels, and doors, could not be identified as “made from locally sourced Low Country trees”. While the occasional log might be milled for its lumber, the vast majority of logs from Charleston’s Low Country is being made into firewood or garden mulch.
Now there is a network of professionals, working together and relying on each other, that follow the tree from its Low Country beginnings, to the felled logs that are milled in this locale, and made available to wood workers and artisans who value the tree as the bounty from the Charleston Low Country. Items made from locally sourced logs can offer a sense of the culture and history of our Charleston heritage.
When the owner of the tree remembers it as once gracing the outdoors that owner can now continue to appreciate it in the many forms into which it can be milled and shaped.
Carolina Sawyers is the provider for locally-sourced Charleston Low Country lumber. Carolina Sawyers is at the core of a network of Arborists and Artisans that work together to find, create and deliver wood products made from low county lumber and reminiscent of the essence and history of the Charleston Low Country.
